Case Closed!!

Today on the 23rd of November Mrs. Taffee came in and confessed to us all about the crime that happened in Whetu. We told her what evidence that we had which included: Her fingerprints were everywhere, she normally uses an HDMI cable because her crome casting hasn't been working, she uses a scrunchie, her shoes are the right size, she came to school the day the crime happened, she parks her car in front of the office and that's where the criminal ran after the came out of the classroom, after she came to school she went to go get a hair cut and got her hair coloured as well, she had a cut under her wrist etc. She came to school on 10/10/20 to drop some things off at school and saw that her HDMI was missing so came over to Whetu to borrow our Dongle, then saw that there were some Milkyway chocolates in our chocolate jar so took some, she thought she heard someone coming so ran out of the classroom but on her way out she couldn't push the door open and cut her wrist on the side of the door and dropped some chocolates along the way.

Grammar Cop!!

This is my online Grammar cop for this week. I didn't really understand how to do it so my friend Jolie helped me out. This challenge was quite fun but the slide I liked the most was the Capital Letters. I hope that we can do more online Grammar cop challenge because I really liked this one!

Think like a detective code!!

This week we had a code we had to solve. I sat next to Alyssa for the challenge and we helped each other get both of the codes right. This was a lot of fun to do and I hope we can do something like this again, me and Alyssa both got the same answers and we laughed for the second sentence because we didn't quite know what it meant. The first code was "Look carefully to uncover the clues" and the second code was "This is no red herring" we didn't quite know what this one meant but we went along with it anyway.

I didn't get a photo of the second code but here is the first one.

I hope we can do more challenges like this because this was very fun!!

Letter of the week!!

This week our letter for letter of the week was C. This letter was pretty easy to do since there is a lot of everyday things that start with the letter C. Letter of the week can be challenging with some words because I have a mind blank and other times it's really easy to think of words.  Doing letter of the week is so fun and I'm excited to do more and more letters. I hope that I don't have a lot of mind blanks with other letters, so I can focus better on my learning.

Letter of the week!!

For our letter of the week this week our letter was R. This week was easy but also challenging because I couldn't find words to match with the Nouns, Adjectives, etc. This was a very fun challenge because I haven't finished one in a little while. R has a lot of different words starting with R or has a lot of nouns starting with R. I hope that I have as much fun doing other letters because this one was very fun to do.

Athletics!!

Yesterday on the 3rd of November we had Ngatea Athletics at the Ngatea Domain. It was a hot day but not too hot that I was dehydrated all day. I was in the 11-year-old age group for all my events, First I had long jump and I did pretty well but not as good as I could do, Next we had 100m heats I did really well and finished off in third place. After we had our first heat we got to chill out on the grandstand and have some food and water. Once I finished eating, my age group was called for shotput, I don't really like shotput but I put a lot of effort into it and did pretty good even if I didn't get 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. After shot put it was our 100m finals we waited a while before we got to run because we were waiting for the last group to hop off the track. Once we had finished our race I didn't get 1st-6th place but I tried my hardest. Then it was time for High Jump just like shotput I don't really like high jump because It just not my thing but I tried my best even if I didn't get over. Then it was time for 200m heats I was in the 4th lane and Taylor B and Mia were beside me, I tried really hard but my legs got really tired from all my other events so I finished in 4th place which is still really good. After all the races had gone it was finally time for RELAYS, Orewa won twice, Weka won Three times, Patiki won once and Kapui didn't win any but that's still fine because they all tried. I had an amazing day cheering on all my friends and doing all my events.

Fingerprints!!

On the 27th of October, we watched a video about fingerprints and how to make them show up with dusting. Once we had finished watching the video Mrs. Kennedy showed us all the supplies we were going to use, The things we were using for this task were: Tape, Cornflower, A black piece of paper, and brushes so we can see our fingerprint and pick it up better. Mrs. Kennedy then showed us how to do it and then we had a go. First, we had to rub our hair so it could get more oil on our fingers and it would show up better, then we had to place our finger on the glass and apply some pressure after that Mrs. Kennedy placed clear tape over our fingerprint then we lifted it off, we then placed the tape with our fingerprint on the black piece of paper and wrote our names on it. This was a very fun task and I hope I can do it at home with my family.

Fantastic Fingerprints!!

This term as you know we have been trying to figure out who has done the crime of stealing Milkyway chocolates. We have been doing rotations and one rotation was with Mrs Kennedy doing FINGERPRINTS!! We had to get into a buddy (I was with Melissa) and then get an ink pad, after we received our ink pad we rolled our thumbs in it (It had to be somewhat a square) and then on a brown piece of paper dabbed some of it off so it's lighter. Once we were done dabbing we rolled it in the first column for our thumb (there were two columns with five squares for our left and right hand). There are three different types of fingerprints that you can have Whorl, Arch, and Loop. I have 5 Loops and 5 Whorls.

Whetu Case 2020

Yesterday we came back from School Holidays and there was a crime scene that happened in our classroom, SOMEONE STOLE CHOCOLATES!!! and left clues for us to figure out. The teachers have set up little clues for us to solve so we can figure out who the culprit was. Some things that are in the crime scene are: a broken flower vase with blood drops next to it, Mr Singh's license, a cracked glass window/door with blood on the crack and the handle of the door, a pink scrunchie, a mug with a blacky browny liquid, a bloody tissue with a tissue box next to it, 16 Milkyway chocolates scattered all over the floor with one chocolate eaten and an
NPS brown pen. There are some more things like footprints but that is mostly the main things. I think that this will be a very interesting case to figure out because we haven't learnt much yet since it is just the second day. I love this case/challenge so far and I hope it will just get better and better!!

Letter of the week Wk 10!!

Here is my letter of the week this week. I did an Mc Donalds logo for my background and of course, I put different words because the letter this week was M. I liked this letter because it was easier for me to pick words that I had to put in my presentation because I used words with M a lot. I think I did well on this challenge since I only had two days to get as much done with only a certain amount of time.

Maths Investigation Challenge Week 10!!

This week I was away for a couple of days because I was over in Christchurch but I came back and I got my maths investigation done and I'm pretty sure I got the answer right. I liked this challenge because for me it got a bit confusing at times but also easy at parts as well. I got the Halo Emoji as my answer!!

Letter of the week!!

Here is my letter of the week we had to do, the letter was G. I found this hard at first but once my friend Bella helped me I found it quite easy. I liked this challenge because it was really fast to do once I got started. I think for my first time I did really well and I definitely want to do this again!

Te Wiki o te Reo Maori Challenge

This is my slides for my challenge we had to do for Maori language week. I liked this challenge because it tested my Maori and I learnt how to say a new sentence in Maori.

My slides

Crystal making!!

This week in our opt-in workshops I have been working in the science group. We had to get in a group of four, in my group I had Jolie, Jessica, Bella and then there was me. We have been making Crystals, we got a black pipe cleaner given to us by Mrs. Kennedy and then we had to make a shape, my group made a heart. After we did that we heading over to the event center kitchen to put the borax and hot water in. Once we were done getting our hot water and borax we let Jessica stir until it had dissolved. We went back to class after we finished and researched more about borax Crystals. We are going to be making sugar crystals that are edible, sadly I won't be here to taste it because I will be over in Christchurch.

Maths Investigation Challenge

This is my maths investigation from this week. It's like the literacy investigation but for maths instead, I liked this one a little less than the literacy because it was a bit confusing the whole way through, in the end, I think I got the answer correct and I'm proud of my learning I have done so far this week.

Literacy Investigation challenge

This week we had to complete a Literacy Challenge and find out who the culprit was who stole a golden medal. I thought it was a little challenging but easy at the same time, it was a little bit confusing but in the end, it got easier for me and I worked it out pretty fast. I liked this challenge because it was easy enough to finish faster than normal and I rate my work a SUPERNOVA!!!

Maths Investigation Week 8 Co-Ordinates

This week we had to do another set of co-ordinates, this is was pretty challenging because it was very confusing for the emoji co-ordinates because the lines were going everywhere and it was making my eyes go fuzzy. I liked the zoo co-ordinates because it was super fun to mark the spots and draw my own zoo animals. This is was fun to do but as I said very challenging as well.

Week 8 Chapter chat!!

This is my Chapter chat for this week. I did a poster advertisement for Abby, Ross, and Jimmy's rock band, I think this turned out amazing, and I'm proud of the work I have done. If I had to rate this out of 10 I would rate it a 9/10 because I love it and even though there isn't as much detail as I could have put in I still think it turned out really good!

Week 7 Investigation Mahi - Co-Ordinates

This week for our Investigation Mahi we did worksheets about co-ordinates to find emojis that the co-ordinates made. This was really fun but also confusing because if I looked at it for too long my mind played tricks on me and it would make me connect them wrong. My favourite emoji is probably the unicorn or the hearts because I think they just look the best!!

Jonah Lomu!!

This is my Famous in Aotearoa person. I did a person from the rugby slide that Mrs. Kennedy had put together for us, I did Jonah Lomu. I worked hard to get my information done then put that information on to my writing in google docs and then presenting it in a nice way. I think I worked really well and I think it looks really good!!

Soup!!

This week I joined the cooking workshop option

On the first day, we learned all the things we don't do in the kitchen and all the hazards that could be caused in the kitchen.

On the second day, we prepared all our food and put all our vegetables in the pot ready to cook in the morning. We also did a little word hunt and had to find words about things around the kitchen.

On the third day, we served the soup and ate it. It was very very yummy and I think I can make it at home with my Mum because it’s pretty easy. Thank you to Mrs. M and Christine for helping us make soup and cooking it for us to eat.

The part I liked the most was preparing the soup and eating it because it was very yummy and I loved the taste.

Whetū Workshops Reflection

During Term 2 and 3 the Whetū students have had the opportunity to be involved in a range of different workshops.

The workshop that I have enjoyed participating in the most has been drama because I loved the humor that the groups I was in brought to it and I just loved it because it was super duper fun!!

The new learning that I have learnt is that lemon juice explodes better with baking soda than vinegar does because it filled the balloon up more and it just had a better result than the vinegar.

What I have most enjoyed about the workshops are the amazing teachers teaching us how to do the workshops properly and how fun it was.

I am interested in learning more about how to make pompom birds better and work better because for me I just couldn't figure out how to do it without it coming apart very easily.

My Pop Art!!

This term we have been doing a type of art called Pop Art. My group had to do Kiwiana art and we could pick anything that was Kiwiana. I did Marmite and I finished today, here it is!!

Cross Country Reflection 2020

This year I participated in the NPS Cross Country held at school on the Ngatea Domain.  I ran in the 11-year-old age group.

I am most proud of running as far as I could before I felt like I needed to walk for a little bit. I pushed myself even if I needed a break, I just kept running because I knew I could do more. In the end, I finished and I got through to Hauraki Plains.

I think my effort towards our training at school was very good and when we went out for training I was determined to do better than the day before and push myself to run as far as I could.

I showed the Learning Power of Resilience by not stopping if I wanted a break because I knew I could do more. I showed Resilience by finishing the race even though it was tough and hard I finished with a smile.

Maths Mahi Investigation Week 4

This is my Maths Mahi for this week. We had to watch a video about what a net is and once we had finished the video we had to fill out a worksheet about matching the net to the shape. For me it was pretty easy but also very fun to do as well. Once we had finished that we were allowed to make 3D shapes but I didn't get time to finish mine since I wasn't here on Wednesday. This was a very fun activity to do and I enjoyed it a lot!

Week 3 Whetu Challenge - Create a cartoon character

Today for our Whetu Challenge we had to get into our learning constellation groups and pick a cartoon that was upon the TV, some of the cartoons that were there were: Simpsons, Peppa pig, Mickey mouse, Incredibles, etc.

Me and my group did the Simpsons, I did Maggie (the baby Simpson) it turn out how I wanted it to turn out but I got it finished in the end and that's what matters.

This challenge was very very hard but my group and me did very well it get it finished although two of our group members didn't quite finish in time.

We tried to make it as realistic as we could and I think we did a pretty good job.
The people in my group were Oscar, Lola BS, Ihipera, Franklin, Cullen, Alex, and Me.

I worked really hard on my character because I kept failing and I accidentally kept double-clicking or clicking too close to the last line so it kept ending before I was finished.

Here are my group's creations.

Maths Mahi - Investigation - Week 3

This is my Maths Mahi Investigation for this week. We had to do some things about symmetry and after we watched a video about symmetry we had to do some of our own. We picked out two pieces of paper that Mrs Kennedy had printed off for us with one side that already had a drawing, and with following the dots that were on the paper we had to try make it symmetrical.

Egg Drop Challenge!!

This week for our Whetu challenge we did an Egg Drop Competition. I worked with Jessica and Mia for this challenge, I chose them because I work really well with them and we had a lot of great plans. When we put our plans together we made a really cool construction. The hardest part was trying to keep the wind from destroying our structure and tipping it over. The easiest part of the challenge was taping things together and blowing up the balloons because we have blown up balloons many times before. Our Egg did crack but overall I think we did really well. We tested all of our creations at the Grand Stand and dropped them off the top step onto the concrete below. To make our creation we used: Heaps of sellotape, 3 Straws, scissors to cut with, Wool, Brown paper bag, 2 Balloons, a clean sock, and News Paper.

Maths Mahi- Week 2- Investigation

This is my Maths Mahi investigation challenge for this week. Here is one of my favourite circle cutouts that I made, this one I made today! I liked doing this challenge because it was fun seeing the different shapes I made once I opened up the circle because we had to fold it in half first. I worked pretty well on this investigation and I'm proud I got it finished!

Matariki Star

This Matariki star. I worked really hard to get this finished because there were only a couple minutes left.  I wasn't rushing my hurrying to finish. I got it done and I'm proud of the work I have accomplished.

Maths Mahi Investigation Challenge.

This week we started something new well actually we started quite a few new things. I am sharing our Maths Mahi investigation today, we had to make different squares and move different rodes (pencils or felts) and make different squares with them. It's a bit hard to explain and this was very very very hard and difficult to do but finally, with a bit of help we think we might have got it, but maybe not.

My Term 2, 2020 Reflection

The new learning activity that I have enjoyed the most this term is the Number of the day. We have been doing this in class every morning and then marking with the teacher to see how many we got right. It tests our knowledge.

Something that has challenged me this term has been the Maths Mystery because something it's really hard to do and I need some help from my friends around me.

The Whetu Challenge I enjoyed the most was probably the Tennis Ball Tower Challenge because it was really funny with the people I was working with. We made a really good tall tower out of newspaper. The tennis ball also stood really well in our tower.

The opt-in workshop I enjoyed the most was Bean Growing because I loved watching my bean grow every day. I liked watering it but my first bean died and I had to re-plant a new one.

An aim I have for my learning is to work hard and get things done faster but also better than before! I think that I should push myself to sit with different people and also talk less.

Matariki-Reading challenge

This is my Matariki reading challenge. This week we are doing things about Matariki because it is coming in the school holidays and we are researching and finding out facts about it. For this reading challenge, we had to do a true or false worksheet, it was called a remember recall and make inferences. I liked doing this because It was really fun and I had a lot of fun doing it alongside my friend Melissa.

Whetu Challenge - Paper Planes

Today our challenge was to design an accurate paper plane. We were given a draft piece of paper to trial and a good piece to use once we had tested the accuracy of it.

Before we started I thought this challenge was going to be a bit hard because I didn't really know how to make a paper plane at first and I was struggling for a little until someone came and helped me. In the end, I got it right and it was really good at flying.

I decided to use the design standard which is the simple design because it was the easiest for me to do since I wasn't very good at making paper planes.

The hardest part was finding the right plane for me because I didn't know how to make it so I went with the simplest design.

During our competition time, I managed to score 15 points and the tip of my plane touched the rim of the hanger.

Maths Mystery!! Wk10

This is my maths mystery for this week, I had a lot of fun doing it but on some of the slides, I got a bit confused but finished it in the end. I found out that the suspect was RUBY she stole all the kid's new pencil cases, it wasn't as hard as I thought it was once I started doing it.  I had fun doing this and Mia had to help me a little bit so thanks to her I finished it quicker.

Storyathon. Lock down experience

Here is my storyathon story about my lockdown experience I did mine about the morning walks me and my Nan would take mostly every morning. Some of it is true and some of it is made up, it is also exactly 100 words. I had to edit it down a bit because I went 35 words over but after I edited it, it still sounded just as good.

Sick Sentences!! Wk 10

Here are my Sick Sentences for this week. I tried to add as much detail as I could into my work and I think I did really well with adding detail. I liked how my sentences turned out and I'm very happy with them. I worked beside Alyssa, Taylor and Hannah getting there opinion on my sentences after I wrote them down, They said that my sentences were good and that I was ready to put them on my blog. I'm proud of my work for this week and I'm happy I got it done.

Synthesis Eggs!!

Here is my Synthesis eggs for this week, I did it about the worlds largest Beetle. This was a very interesting thing to research about and there wasn't a lot of writing on the website but it gave me a lot of information about this specific type of beetle. This beetle was called the Titan Beetle and its very very large in size, I was surprised how big it was and I defiantly wouldn't want this on my backside when I'm walking through the bush. These beetles are found in rain forests in South America and especially in North Brazil, they are also found in a bunch of different places around America. This was amazing to read about and I'm glad I resreached it!

Sick Sentences!!

This is my Sick sentences for this week, we did it on a Wasp and an Owl. This was fun to do because there was a lot of detail but I just couldn't think of anything at that moment. It didn't take that long for me to do because last week I took a lot of time on this, so it boosted me to work faster and harder. I think I put a lot of detail into my sentences and I like how good they turned out. I'm proud of my work and I think I made a SUPERNOVA!!

Reading challenge!!

This is my reading challenge for this week, I did it on firenadoes. This was very interesting to research on because I didn't know what firenadoes were at first. I thought that it was just a normal tornado mixing with a fire on the ground, I didn't think it would be this massive tornado OF fire. I found out quite a lot about this topic and it loved reading about it. One of the most interesting things I read about it is that a little after the Great Kanto Earthquake happened in Japan a huge firestorm created a massive firewhirl that killed 38,000 people in Tokyo in about 15minutes. This was fun to read and research about!

Tennis Ball Tower Challenge

Today for our Whetu Challenge we worked in a group to build a tower out of newspaper, 2 straws and sellotape. We needed to make our tower strong enough to hold a tennis ball and be able to stand alone (not leaning on anything or needing support).

Today I worked with Jessica and Maitearoha, We worked really well together.

At first, we had trouble trying to get the tower sturdy and strong. And then we got it strong enough to where it could stand on its own with the ball in the middle.

The easiest thing was Putting the ball in the middle of our tower but the only thing is that it was hard to stand on its own with the ball.

The best part of our tower was that it was pretty tall and sturdy in the end. It was 73cm tall. Also when it stood on its own for the first time.

Our tower looked AMAZING and we worked really hard on it.

In the end, It looked amazing and turned out great!

Wk 8 Blog challenge. Meet my pet!

This is my blog challenge for this week. For my Pet, I did shadow because I thought she would be the easiest, and she was. She is now 1 year and 19 days old and really really big and heavy. I love her a lot and she also loves me and goes crazy when I come home, she will jump all over me and lick me. She loves people and when we put her outside she will cry until we let her back in and will cuddle us on the ground or on the couch. She needs a lot of training though because she sometimes tries to bite or attack people that she doesn't know or that are strangers. When she goes for walks she pulls but then Mum will pull her back and growl her.

Sick Sentences!!!!!

This is my sick sentences for this week writing challenge. I enjoyed doing this because I liked re-writing the sentences that were a bit bland and boring, I think I re-created them pretty well and like how they turned out! I think I made a SUPERNOVA because I worked really hard and it took a while for me to think of the sentences.

Catapult challenge!!!

The things that I used to make my catapult were: 8 Popsicle sticks, 4 Rubber bands, 1 spoon and a computer with a tutorial playing on it.

To make my catapult I worked with Bella and Melissa, it was really fun because we were all friends and worked really well together.

The most challenging part was putting the rubber bands around the sticks and the spoon because the rubber bands kept snapping and it was also really hard to get the popsicle sticks in the right space of the catapult.

Our best results were how high it went because we tried every way and highest was the category that worked the best for us! We didn't make it to the semi finale or the finale but we made it to the second round for highest.

Overall I think that it worked really well and this is a super fun activity to do at school with friends or even at home with your family.

This is us with the catapult we made!

Onomatopoeia!!

Here are my Onomatopoeia sentences. This week we had to do an Onomatopeia writing challenge, we got to make up our own sentences and describing words and then put them together. It was pretty tough and challenging for me because at first, I didn't know what to write. I think my sentences turned out really well and I worked really hard on them, It was fun to do and I got some help from my friends along the way!

Maths Mystery!!

This week for our class maths mystery I worked with Jessica. We did it on paper so there isn't a slide for me to show but it was really fun to do and there was quite a lot of mistakes and laughing. It didn't take that long to do when we worked together but when we first tried it by ourselves we didn't quite understand how to do it. In the end, our answer was Florance, We sort of made a little thing with other people that were at our table and if they needed help or if we needed help we would help each other.

Wednesday, 27 May 2020

Emoji!

This week I did the emoji challenge and created my own emoji. I think it turned out pretty well and it didn't really take that long to do. I made a monster that was scared and sad because he had lost a tooth, I haven't seen any type of monster or people losing a tooth so I just mixed my two ideas together. I really like the emoji I made and it turned out really good in my opinion. I rate my work a 9.5/10 because it's really good and I enjoyed making it.

Egg Carton Animals

Yesterday I did egg carton animals with my brother Shaun. First, we cut up the egg carton into different shapes and sizes and then figured out what we were going to do. After that, we got the paints and the newspaper and lay them all down on the floor and got to painting. we painted a snail, caterpillars, a bat (that didn't quite work out) and a purple ladybug which also didn't work out. It was really fun to do but it took quite a lot of work to get them all finished before the end of the day. My favourite was the snail because it turned out really well and it looks the best as well. It didn't take that long to tidy up but it was a lot of handwashing because I would go backwards and forwards from the couch to the paints and then to eat and back to the paints.
