Today on the 23rd of November Mrs. Taffee came in and confessed to us all about the crime that happened in Whetu. We told her what evidence that we had which included: Her fingerprints were everywhere, she normally uses an HDMI cable because her crome casting hasn't been working, she uses a scrunchie, her shoes are the right size, she came to school the day the crime happened, she parks her car in front of the office and that's where the criminal ran after the came out of the classroom, after she came to school she went to go get a hair cut and got her hair coloured as well, she had a cut under her wrist etc. She came to school on 10/10/20 to drop some things off at school and saw that her HDMI was missing so came over to Whetu to borrow our Dongle, then saw that there were some Milkyway chocolates in our chocolate jar so took some, she thought she heard someone coming so ran out of the classroom but on her way out she couldn't push the door open and cut her wrist on the side of the door and dropped some chocolates along the way.

Grammar Cop!!
This is my online Grammar cop for this week. I didn't really understand how to do it so my friend Jolie helped me out. This challenge was quite fun but the slide I liked the most was the Capital Letters. I hope that we can do more online Grammar cop challenge because I really liked this one!

Think like a detective code!!
This week we had a code we had to solve. I sat next to Alyssa for the challenge and we helped each other get both of the codes right. This was a lot of fun to do and I hope we can do something like this again, me and Alyssa both got the same answers and we laughed for the second sentence because we didn't quite know what it meant. The first code was "Look carefully to uncover the clues" and the second code was "This is no red herring" we didn't quite know what this one meant but we went along with it anyway.
I didn't get a photo of the second code but here is the first one.
I hope we can do more challenges like this because this was very fun!!
Letter of the week!!
This week our letter for letter of the week was C. This letter was pretty easy to do since there is a lot of everyday things that start with the letter C. Letter of the week can be challenging with some words because I have a mind blank and other times it's really easy to think of words. Doing letter of the week is so fun and I'm excited to do more and more letters. I hope that I don't have a lot of mind blanks with other letters, so I can focus better on my learning.

Athletics!!
Yesterday on the 3rd of November we had Ngatea Athletics at the Ngatea Domain. It was a hot day but not too hot that I was dehydrated all day. I was in the 11-year-old age group for all my events, First I had long jump and I did pretty well but not as good as I could do, Next we had 100m heats I did really well and finished off in third place. After we had our first heat we got to chill out on the grandstand and have some food and water. Once I finished eating, my age group was called for shotput, I don't really like shotput but I put a lot of effort into it and did pretty good even if I didn't get 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. After shot put it was our 100m finals we waited a while before we got to run because we were waiting for the last group to hop off the track. Once we had finished our race I didn't get 1st-6th place but I tried my hardest. Then it was time for High Jump just like shotput I don't really like high jump because It just not my thing but I tried my best even if I didn't get over. Then it was time for 200m heats I was in the 4th lane and Taylor B and Mia were beside me, I tried really hard but my legs got really tired from all my other events so I finished in 4th place which is still really good. After all the races had gone it was finally time for RELAYS, Orewa won twice, Weka won Three times, Patiki won once and Kapui didn't win any but that's still fine because they all tried. I had an amazing day cheering on all my friends and doing all my events.

Fingerprints!!
On the 27th of October, we watched a video about fingerprints and how to make them show up with dusting. Once we had finished watching the video Mrs. Kennedy showed us all the supplies we were going to use, The things we were using for this task were: Tape, Cornflower, A black piece of paper, and brushes so we can see our fingerprint and pick it up better. Mrs. Kennedy then showed us how to do it and then we had a go. First, we had to rub our hair so it could get more oil on our fingers and it would show up better, then we had to place our finger on the glass and apply some pressure after that Mrs. Kennedy placed clear tape over our fingerprint then we lifted it off, we then placed the tape with our fingerprint on the black piece of paper and wrote our names on it. This was a very fun task and I hope I can do it at home with my family.

Fantastic Fingerprints!!
This term as you know we have been trying to figure out who has done the crime of stealing Milkyway chocolates. We have been doing rotations and one rotation was with Mrs Kennedy doing FINGERPRINTS!! We had to get into a buddy (I was with Melissa) and then get an ink pad, after we received our ink pad we rolled our thumbs in it (It had to be somewhat a square) and then on a brown piece of paper dabbed some of it off so it's lighter. Once we were done dabbing we rolled it in the first column for our thumb (there were two columns with five squares for our left and right hand). There are three different types of fingerprints that you can have Whorl, Arch, and Loop. I have 5 Loops and 5 Whorls.

Whetu Case 2020
Yesterday we came back from School Holidays and there was a crime scene that happened in our classroom, SOMEONE STOLE CHOCOLATES!!! and left clues for us to figure out. The teachers have set up little clues for us to solve so we can figure out who the culprit was. Some things that are in the crime scene are: a broken flower vase with blood drops next to it, Mr Singh's license, a cracked glass window/door with blood on the crack and the handle of the door, a pink scrunchie, a mug with a blacky browny liquid, a bloody tissue with a tissue box next to it, 16 Milkyway chocolates scattered all over the floor with one chocolate eaten and an
NPS brown pen. There are some more things like footprints but that is mostly the main things. I think that this will be a very interesting case to figure out because we haven't learnt much yet since it is just the second day. I love this case/challenge so far and I hope it will just get better and better!!

Letter of the week Wk 10!!
Here is my letter of the week this week. I did an Mc Donalds logo for my background and of course, I put different words because the letter this week was M. I liked this letter because it was easier for me to pick words that I had to put in my presentation because I used words with M a lot. I think I did well on this challenge since I only had two days to get as much done with only a certain amount of time.

Here is my letter of the week we had to do, the letter was G. I found this hard at first but once my friend Bella helped me I found it quite easy. I liked this challenge because it was really fast to do once I got started. I think for my first time I did really well and I definitely want to do this again!

Whetū Workshops Reflection
The workshop that I have enjoyed participating in the most has been drama because I loved the humor that the groups I was in brought to it and I just loved it because it was super duper fun!!
The new learning that I have learnt is that lemon juice explodes better with baking soda than vinegar does because it filled the balloon up more and it just had a better result than the vinegar.
What I have most enjoyed about the workshops are the amazing teachers teaching us how to do the workshops properly and how fun it was.
I am interested in learning more about how to make pompom birds better and work better because for me I just couldn't figure out how to do it without it coming apart very easily.

Week 3 Whetu Challenge - Create a cartoon character
Me and my group did the Simpsons, I did Maggie (the baby Simpson) it turn out how I wanted it to turn out but I got it finished in the end and that's what matters.
This challenge was very very hard but my group and me did very well it get it finished although two of our group members didn't quite finish in time.
We tried to make it as realistic as we could and I think we did a pretty good job.
The people in my group were Oscar, Lola BS, Ihipera, Franklin, Cullen, Alex, and Me.
I worked really hard on my character because I kept failing and I accidentally kept double-clicking or clicking too close to the last line so it kept ending before I was finished.
Here are my group's creations.

Egg Drop Challenge!!
This week for our Whetu challenge we did an Egg Drop Competition. I worked with Jessica and Mia for this challenge, I chose them because I work really well with them and we had a lot of great plans. When we put our plans together we made a really cool construction. The hardest part was trying to keep the wind from destroying our structure and tipping it over. The easiest part of the challenge was taping things together and blowing up the balloons because we have blown up balloons many times before. Our Egg did crack but overall I think we did really well. We tested all of our creations at the Grand Stand and dropped them off the top step onto the concrete below. To make our creation we used: Heaps of sellotape, 3 Straws, scissors to cut with, Wool, Brown paper bag, 2 Balloons, a clean sock, and News Paper.Thursday, 30 July 2020

My Term 2, 2020 Reflection
Something that has challenged me this term has been the Maths Mystery because something it's really hard to do and I need some help from my friends around me.
The opt-in workshop I enjoyed the most was Bean Growing because I loved watching my bean grow every day. I liked watering it but my first bean died and I had to re-plant a new one.
An aim I have for my learning is to work hard and get things done faster but also better than before! I think that I should push myself to sit with different people and also talk less.

Storyathon. Lock down experience
Here is my storyathon story about my lockdown experience I did mine about the morning walks me and my Nan would take mostly every morning. Some of it is true and some of it is made up, it is also exactly 100 words. I had to edit it down a bit because I went 35 words over but after I edited it, it still sounded just as good.Tuesday, 16 June 2020

Tennis Ball Tower Challenge
Today for our Whetu Challenge we worked in a group to build a tower out of newspaper, 2 straws and sellotape. We needed to make our tower strong enough to hold a tennis ball and be able to stand alone (not leaning on anything or needing support).
Today I worked with Jessica and Maitearoha, We worked really well together.
At first, we had trouble trying to get the tower sturdy and strong. And then we got it strong enough to where it could stand on its own with the ball in the middle.
The easiest thing was Putting the ball in the middle of our tower but the only thing is that it was hard to stand on its own with the ball.
The best part of our tower was that it was pretty tall and sturdy in the end. It was 73cm tall. Also when it stood on its own for the first time.
Our tower looked AMAZING and we worked really hard on it.

Catapult challenge!!!
The things that I used to make my catapult were: 8 Popsicle sticks, 4 Rubber bands, 1 spoon and a computer with a tutorial playing on it.
To make my catapult I worked with Bella and Melissa, it was really fun because we were all friends and worked really well together.
The most challenging part was putting the rubber bands around the sticks and the spoon because the rubber bands kept snapping and it was also really hard to get the popsicle sticks in the right space of the catapult.
Our best results were how high it went because we tried every way and highest was the category that worked the best for us! We didn't make it to the semi finale or the finale but we made it to the second round for highest.
Overall I think that it worked really well and this is a super fun activity to do at school with friends or even at home with your family.
This is us with the catapult we made!
